Despite Theo Epstein's insistence that the team will look to acquire a right-handed bat, the Red Sox may have apparently already started looking in different directions. With injuries to Jon Lester, Clay Buchholz, Daisuke Matsuzaka and an injury scare for Josh Beckett, the Red Sox are expected to at least poke around for a starting pitcher as the trade deadline approaches.

One of those pitchers could be Dodgers starter Hiroki Kuroda. According to Sports Illustrated's Jon Heyman, the Red Sox have called Los Angeles about the 36-year-old.

A little time later, Peter Gammons tweeted that "some gums feel Kuroda prefers not to be traded to East Coast." Kuroda does have a full no-trade clause.

The righty is 6-10 with a 3.06 ERA this season. For his career, Kuroda has a 3.50 ERA and a 1.19 WHIP. Since 2008, Kuroda has a 4.76 ERA against American League teams.

The Yankees and Tigers are also reportedly interested in Kuroda, according to Heyman.
