Defensive lineman Ty Warren had to sit out during the afternoon session to work out and stretch on the sideline. Warren was joined by safety James Sanders, tight end Aaron Hernandez, defensive lineman Ron Brace, defensive lineman Brandon Deaderick and offensive lineman Mike Berry.
Seventh-round draft pick Malcolm Williams also made his debut Thursday afternoon, leaving five unsigned draft picks: tackle Nate Solder, cornerback Ras-I Dowling, running back Shane Vereen, quarterback Ryan Mallett and offensive lineman Marcus Cannon, all of whom did not practice.
Cornerback Kyle Arrington, running back BenJarvus Green-Ellis, guard Logan Mankins, offensive lineman Nick Kaczur, tight end Alge Crumpler, defensive lineman Myron Pryor and defensive lineman Marcus Stroud were also absent from both of Thursday's practices. Stroud told the Boston Herald he had been cut, and Kaczur is expected to be cut.
Linebacker Brandon Spikes and wide receiver Brandon Tate needed additional stretching during the final moments of practice, so their status could be in question Friday.
Kicker Stephen Gostkowski is working back slowly after tearing his quadriceps last season. He did not attempt any kickoffs during the afternoon practice, and he only kicked a few short field goals.
