That’s a philosophical discussion that could last for hours, but what can’t be debated is that Boston sports fans have been treated to more great sports moments in their lifetimes than they ever could have hoped for.
With the Red Sox and Bruins combining to share nearly 200 years of history, the Celtics owning 17 world championships, the Patriots becoming a championship franchise seemingly overnight and a host of other athletes making their way through the Hub, the city of Boston has been home to thousands of memorable sports moments.
But which moment is the very best of all?
We’re letting you, the fans, decide.
We spent months going through all of the great moments in Boston sports before trimming them down to 64. Some very incredible moments didn’t make the cut, but you’d be hard-pressed to find any on the list that aren’t worthy.
Now, it’s up to you to determine which moment is the best.
We assigned seeds to the moments from 1-16 in a tournament-style bracket. Beginning Monday, Aug. 15, fans can vote on the first-round matchups. The winners will be determined by fan votes at the end of the week. Results will be finalized every Monday at 12 p.m. ET. Voting for the second round will begin Aug. 22, the third round on Aug. 29, the quarterfinal round on Sept. 5 and the semifinal round on Sept. 12. The championship vote will begin on Sept. 19, and the winner will be announced on Sept. 26.
There are plenty of unforgettable moments from which to choose. No decision will be easy. So let’s see what you have to say, and let’s see what you consider to be Boston’s Greatest Sports Moment.
