The Cumberland, R.I., offense, despite a roster full of 12-year-olds, slugs home runs at a rate similar to the Boston Red Sox. This offense was a big reason for the team’s 9-0 run to the East Regional.
The team hit 22 home runs and averaged close to 10 hits per game during the district and state tournaments. The team averaged more than 11 runs per game, and outscored its opponents by an average of nine runs per game.
The pitching staff has been equally dominant, allowing one run or less in five of nine games. Cumberland has allowed around two runs per game and has limited its opponents to three hits per game, a testament to a solid defense.
