Lucic and the Bruins wrapped up the Cup Final in June in Vancouver, the forward's hometown, making the moment all the more memorable. Lucic even got a smattering of applause when he took the Cup for a spin around the ice.
However, it sounds like some of the hostility shown in the city's riots following Boston's win has simmered, even with the city's native son ready to bring the Cup back to his home.
The Vancouver Courier reports (with a stick tap to Yahoo's Puck Daddy blog) that Lucic and his family have had to scale back some of their Cup celebrations for when Lucic gets his day with sport's most hallowed trophy.
"There is a certain amount of tension right now," Lucic's mom, Snezana Lucic, told the Courier. "It's not all of Vancouver, just certain individuals."
Photos of Lucic around the city were reportedly vandalized, and his appearance at Vancouver's annual Greek fest led to fights — the power forward was not involved himself, of course.
Lucic had reportedly planned to bring the Cup to Kitsilano Beach Park, a scenic landmark in the city, but that idea was shot down.
Instead, Lucic plans to have a quiet celebration with family and friends. They aren't taking any chances with any hostile fans still upset over the Bruins' triumph over the Canucks just two months ago.
"That's why Milan does not want to be out there, parading the Cup around his hometown," his mother added.
