Ellis became the latest in a long line of players who have spent time in both organizations. He's also one of the bigger names to do so, as well, as he joins a list that includes names like Bill Belichick, Bill Parcells, Curtis Martin, Damien Woody and Ty Law have all spent time with both clubs.
What Ellis himself will try to do, though, is become the latest player to burn the Jets after leaving for the Pats.
Of course, any conversation about Jets and Patriots switching teams has to involve Otis Smith. The defensive back spent time in 1995 with the Jets before going to New England in 1996. Then, in '97, he went back to East Rutherford, only to return to Foxboro in '97. Smith played on the Patriots team that fell to the Packers in Super Bowl XXXI, only to return and help the Patriots knock off the Rams in Super Bowl XXXVI.
Bryan Cox' played three seasons in green before heading north to join the Patriots. The veteran linebacker played his 2001 season in New England after playing the three years prior with the Jets. The former All-Pro had 34 tackles in that lone season as a Patriot.
Simply put, Roman Phifer picked a good time to leave the Jets for the Patriots. He spent the 1999 and 2000 seasons playing for New York before he jetted for Foxboro. All he did after doing that was to help the Patriots win three Super Bowls in four years. He was an integral piece of a stellar New England defense that paved the way for the three banners to be brought back to New England.
Finally, and most recently, running back Danny Woodhead became the latest example of "one man's trash is another man's treasure." While thanks to Hard Knocks, it's clear that Jets head coach Rex Ryan respected the way Woodhead plays, New York still let the 5-foot-8 running back walk after Week 1 of the 2010 season. From there, he went to New England and shined in the Patriots offense and ended the season with six total touchdowns.
