FOXBORO, Mass. — Defensive lineman Albert Haynesworth didn't practice Thursday, but cornerback Kyle Arrington returned to the field after missing Wednesday's session with a concussion.

It's the first time Haynesworth hadn't practiced since Sept. 10, when he had an illness.

The Patriots were also without tight end Aaron Hernandez (knee), safety Patrick Chung (hand), tackle Sebastian Vollmer (back), defensive lineman Mike Wright (concussion) and tight end Dan Gronkowski (hamstring).

Chung reportedly had thumb surgery earlier in the week, but he was at Gillette on Thursday, according to sources. Hernandez told NESN.com on Thursday he's "feeling fine."

This is Gronkowski's first absence since joining the team. He had been limited with the hamstring injury prior to Thursday.

Defensive back Josh Victorian made his debut after being signed to the practice squad. Prior to the session, the Patriots promoted linebacker Jeff Tarpinian to the active roster and released linebacker A.J. Edds.

The practice, which was held outside in the rain, was conducted in shorts and shells. The Pats have been in shorts and shells during eight of their 10 regular-season practices.
