Reds’ Juan Francisco Blasts Disputed 502-Foot Home Run Out of Great American Ball Park (Video)

Juan Francisco was twice named the Cincinnati Reds' Minor League Hitter of the Year, and Baseball America rated him the organization's best power hitter in 2009. With only 84 big league plate appearances entering this season, though, the left-handed-hitting infielder had yet to show those skills to a national audience.

That problem may have been rectified after Francisco's 500-foot (disputed distance) moonshot out of Great American Ballpark on Monday. The 24-year-old — who bears a passing resemblance to former Reds moonshot artist Wily Mo Pena — launched a Rodrigo Lopez pitch deep to right field and beyond the bleachers.

The distance was announced by the public address anouncer as 502 feet, but Home Run Tracker claimed the ball "only" traveled 482 feet, according to Yahoo Sports.

The Reds, as they have tended to do this season, still lost.
