Stephen Shumaker, 63, an athlete competing at the 2011 USA Masters Track and Field Championships in Berea, Ohio, tested positive for banned substances and has accepted a two-year suspension.
Shumaker's offense was that he did not seek the appropriate approvals before using a prescription drug recommended by his physician. Any results dating back to July 28 will be forfeit.
Being a track and field athlete takes a considerable toll on one's body, and to be competing into his sixties on a national level is nothing short of amazing for Shumaker. But the doping catch puts a tarnish on his accomplishments.
This was the 15th suspension handed out by the United States Anti-Doping Agency this year.
