Ben Cherington and Theo Epstein both grew up in New England and they worked closely together as members of the Red Sox front office. But while Cherington admits some similarities exist between the two, he's also quick to point out that his background and style is a bit different.
Cherington said that the core principals will remain in place, but that his management style isn't exactly the same as Epstein's. The new Sox general manager praised Epstein's boldness and willingess to take chances, though, while also saying that he learned a great deal working under him for the past nine years.
Cherington said that his personal background as a scout should hopefully help him identify who the good talent evaluators are and who to trust when it comes to talent evaluation.
