Someone was feeling mighty lucky, mighty drunk or plenty of both on the night of Sept. 12 in Las Vegas.
That night, the Cardinals were five games behind the Braves for the wild card with just 15 games to go, as noted by Deadspin. Also that night, an unidentified person placed two bets with the sports book at the MGM Grand. One bet was $250, at 500-to-1 odds, that the Cards would win the NL pennant. The same bettor decided to make it an even $500 and put down $250 more on the Cards to win the World Series, getting odds of 999-to-1.
He (or she) has already bagged $125,000 and is looking at another $250,000 if the Cards win it all.
