In the second quarter of Friday night's game against Louisville, Cardinals cornerback Anthony Conner hit his head on the knee of Scarlet Knights receiver Mohamed Sanu while trying to execute a tackle. Reports say Conner, who broke his neck on the play, had full feeling in his extremities, but the moment was scary nonetheless, not the least because of the timing.
Rutgers players came out and knelt beside Conner as trainers worked on him. One year ago last Sunday, Rutgers' Eric LeGrand was carted off the field after fracturing two vertebrae in his neck while making a tackle on a kickoff return. LeGrand has served as an inspiration with his positive attitude, but he has yet to walk under his own power.
LeGrand, who appeared on the pregame show Friday, tweeted support for Connor on Friday night.
"Praying for the Louisville DB," LeGrand tweeted.
Louisville coach Charlie Strong issued a statement Saturday that said Conner is still being evaluated, but is conscious and has feeling in his extremities, The Associated Press reports.
