Matt Bartkowski will be sent down to the Providence Bruins, where he was the leading defenseman in points last season.

This season, Bartkowski has averaged 6:07 of ice time filling in for the injured Adam McQuaid. He has played a total of nine games in the NHL, registering four penalty minutes. Steven Kampfer has returned from a knee injury and will likely play on Thursday in the injured McQuaid’s absence.

Bartkowski, 23, was acquired by Boston from Florida with Dennis Seidenberg for Byron Bitz, Craig Weller and Tampa Bay’s second-round draft pick in 2010 on March 3, 2010. He was originally drafted by the Panthers in the seventh round (190th overall) of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft.
