Though he had a breakout season last season in the third year of his career, Michael Beasley is still viewed as an underachiever in many NBA circles.
The second overall pick from the 2008 draft, Beasley never quite fit in with the Heat and was traded to the Timberwolves to make room for LeBron James and company. His game has improved, but multiple marijuana incidents, a rehab visit and a tweet that seemed to indicate suicidal thoughts show the 22-year-old still has some growing up to do.
With the league still in lockout limbo, Beasley has done some soul searching and hired a public relations firm to help him mold a new public image.
Oh yeah, he's taking ballet, too.
"I don't really dance," he told the Minnesota Star-Tribune. "I do it for the stretching."
As part of his new training regimen, Beasley is incorporating yoga, karate and ballet to make himself quicker and more limber. Thus far he has dropped 15 pounds after weighing 240 pounds most of last season.
Any chance he appears on Dancing With The Stars?
"I don't really consider myself a star, but if they want me to dance, I'll dance," he said.
Hey, if Ron Artest, a.k.a. Metta World Peace, can do it, Beasley can too.
