The Pittsburgh Penguins and Washington Capitals will put their rivalry on hold for one night for a good cause.
The two teams are joining forces on Oct. 13 to raise money for the families of Lokomotiv Yaroslavl, the KHL team whose plane crashed in September while traveling to the team’s season opener.
The two NHL teams will wear commemorative patches on their jerseys during their game at Pittsburgh’s CONSOL Energy Center, then autograph the jerseys and auction them off after the game on NHL.com.
Alexander Ovechkin and Evgeni Malkin, who are both Russian, will participate in a ceremonial face-off before the game.
All proceeds from the auction will benefit the Lokomotiv players’ families.
