The Red Sox need a manager, and former Sox pitching coach John Farrell seems like the perfect fit. Problem is, Farrell manages the Blue Jays.
That, however, may not be that big of a problem.
ESPN’s Dan Shulman said on Twitter on Monday that if there is mutual interest between the Red Sox and Farrell, the Blue Jays wouldn’t prevent their manager from leaving.
“To those who asked…if #redsox have interest in John Farrell and he wants to go, my understanding is #bluejays would not stand in his way,” Shulman tweeted.
To this point, there’s been no real link between Farrell and the Red Sox other than media and fans discussing the possibility.
In his first season as the Blue Jays’ skipper, Farrell led Toronto to an 81-81 record, a slight dip from the 85-77 record a year prior.
Farrell’s contract runs through the 2013 season, according to Cot’s Baseball Contracts.
