Holmes was asked his thoughts of the Patriots' defense on Wednesday, and the veteran wideout didn't hold back. According to Homes, you just need to look at the stats.
"I think the numbers speak for themselves on how well those guys are not playing on their defense," Holmes said, according to the New York Post.
To his point, however, the Patriots do rank last in the NFL in both total yards and passing yards allowed per game.
It's the latest in a weird week for Holmes. Following an ugly loss to the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday night, Holmes criticized the team's offensive line and quarterback Mark Sanchez.
"It starts up front with our big guys, they need to do a better job protecting Mark, and Mark has to do a better job making his reads and getting the ball to playmakers," Holmes said after the Jets fell 34-17 to Baltimore in a game in which New York gained just 150 total yards.
That criticism prompted Jets legend Joe Namath to once again give his opinion on the state of the Jets in which he criticized Holmes for criticizing Sanchez and his line.
"For Holmes, as a captain, to go outside, to the media, and start pointing fingers," Namath said on ESPN 1050 in New York, "I mean … he's right about the offensive line, but that can create a problem in the locker room.
"That divisiveness can bury a team. They've got to correct that right away."
Holmes has 13 catches and a touchdown this season, and he had 10 catches for 92 yards and a touchdown in two games against New England last season.
