Almost a week later, and nothing has really changed for the slumping Bruins. In fact, things have gotten only worse for the defending Stanley Cup champions after dropping a home-and-home series with the rival Canadiens.

The B’s are left to pick up the pieces and try to find a way to make things better, and you probably wouldn’t blame any fans who are starting to worry about the prospects of this Cup defense season.

The Bruins’ early struggles, or at least the fact that they are this prolonged, is one of the surprising storylines in the NHL thus far. So is, for the opposite reasons, the play of a pair of teams out west. Both the Edmonton Oilers and Dallas Stars, two teams expected by many to struggle, both lead their respective divisions.
