The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports that the All-Pro safety has been fined $10,000 by the NFL for using a cell phone on the sidelines during Pittsburgh's 17-13 win over the Jaguars. Polamalu borrowed the phone from a team trainer to call his wife after he left the game with symptoms of a concussion.
Polamalu has had a history of concussions, and Pittsburgh coach Mike Tomlin explained earlier in the week that his safety just wanted to let his wife know that he was OK.
Tomlin also initially stated that he didn't expect Polamalu to be fined despite the fact that the NFL does not permit the use of cell phones on team benches prior to and during games.
The Polamalu fine comes a few days after the NFL announced that it would not discipline Detroit head coach Jim Schwartz and San Francisco head coach Jim Harbaugh for their postgame skirmish in Detroit.
