Andre Agassi and Jim Courier were among the tennis legends to partake in the Staples Champions Cup at TD Garden, which drew a crowd of tennis enthusiasts who were anxious to see some of the sport's greats.
Agassi went on to defeat Courier, 8-5, in the championship match Saturday to move into a tie for second place in the 2011 Champions Series rankings. Agassi now has 800 points, as do Courier and Michael Chang. Pete Sampras leads the way with 900 points.
It's an important step for Agassi, as the top three finishers on the tour split a $1 million bonus.
Among those in attendance to witness Agassi's victory was Boston Bruins captain Zdeno Chara. He was on hand to watch former World No. 1 professional tennis player and eight-time Grand Slam single titles winner Ivan Lendl, who is one of Chara's close friends.
Lendl lost to Agassi in the event's semifinals, but he was happy to chat with Chara and get back to the sport he loves.
