Ron Johnson is headed back to the minor leagues after a two-year stint as Red Sox first base coach.
Johnson was named the manager of the Norfolk Tides, the Baltimore Orioles' Triple-A affiliate, on Monday, according to The Baltimore Sun. Gary Allenson will be reassigned to another part of the organization after managing the Tides for parts of five seasons.
The Red Sox didn't renew Johnson's contract at the end of the 2011 season. He managed Triple-A Pawtucket from 2005-2009 before being promoted to the major league coaching staff in 2010.
