Celtics’ 2011-12 Season Features Two Matchups With Lakers, Rough Stretch With Long Trip in March

The NBA released its full schedule on Tuesday night, and as expected, it's pretty jam-packed with games and travel. That's what happens when you have to fit 66 games into just more than four months of the calendar.

The Celtics, like every other team, will be quite busy. The C's already knew that they'd open the season on Dec. 25 in New York with a Christmas Day showdown with the New York Knicks, but they now know the rest of the gauntlet.

A couple of highlights include a pair of games with the rival Los Angeles Lakers, with the first coming on Feb. 9 at TD Garden and a rematch on Mar. 11. The second matchup, at Staples Center in L.A., kicks off the Celtics' longest road trip of the year. The eight-game trip, which starts with a West Coast swing, runs from that Lakers game on the 11th through Mar. 23.

To put the schedule's difficulty into perspective, the C's will play four more games in March after the end of the trip, and those four games will require Boston to travel twice.

The condensed schedule means each NBA team will have to play on back-to-back-to-back nights at least once. For the Celtics, that will come Apr. 13-15 when they travel to Toronto, New Jersey and Charlotte.
