The Celtics have been linked to Chris Paul and appeared to be on the verge of landing David West. But neither deal came to fruition, which is due in large part to Boston being over the salary cap.
The Boston Globe’s Gary Washburn dropped by NESN Daily to discuss the Celtics’ offseason and why it’s been so difficult to make the big splash they have seemingly tried to make. He said that the money tied up between the Big Three and Rajon Rondo makes it difficult for Danny Ainge to pull the trigger on anything major.
Washburn said that the C’s may instead go after some second-tier players, like Reggie Evans, in order to fill out the roster.
Doc Rivers also took some time to talk about his team’s preparation. The Celtics head coach said that his team hasn’t been able to scrimmage through the first three days of practice because the roster is not yet full.
