Fernando Reges Could Spark Bidding War Between Liverpool and JuventusFernando Reges could be the subject of a bidding war between Liverpool FC and Juventus in January. The FC Porto defensive midfielder has been scouted by both clubs and the Italians have submitted a transfer bid, according to the Daily Mail.

“After watching him help Porto beat Sporting Braga a fortnight ago, Juve lodged a bid of £6 million ($9.3 million) plus an unnamed player,” the report read.

The 24-year-old Brazilian is reportedly valued around £17 million ($26.3 million) and has a contract that runs until 2014.

Fernando, as he is known, joined the reigning Portuguese champions in 2007 from Brazilian club Villa-Nova after playing first-team soccer in his country’s third division. He has been a mainstay in the Porto midfield since the 2008-09 season and featured heavily in last season’s treble-winning team.

The Brazilian youth international is highly-regarded in Portugal for his defensive qualities and comfort on the ball.

He could make for an ideal replacement for Lucas in Liverpool’s team. The LFC holding midfielder is out for the season after suffering a cruciate injury last month.
