Former Harvard Football Coach Joe Restic Dies at Age 85

Harvard announced Saturday that its former head football coach, Joe Restic, died at Brigham & Women's Hospital on Thursday at age 85.

Over 23 seasons, spanning from 1971-93, Restic led the Crimson to a 117-97-6 record and five Ivy League championships.

Restic coached as an assistant at Brown and Colgate, and served as the president of the American Football Coaches Association in 1988. He also led the Hamilton Tiger-Cats of the CFL to six Grey Cup appearances.

Restic was a two-sport professional athlete in Philadelphia, playing baseball for the Phillies and football for the Eagles in 1952-53.

Restic is survived by his four children, Kathleen, Joseph, Susan and David and his sister, Agnes Mancuso. He was predeceased by his wife, Marian, in 2008.
