Georges St. Pierre Undergoes Successful Surgery on Injured KneeGeorges St. Pierre announced via his official Twitter account that the surgery on his injured knee, in which he tore his ACL, had been successful.

“Dr. [Neal] ElAttrache says my surgery [ACL patellar tendon auto graft] was huge success! Ligament very strong. Tks for support!” said Pierre while tweeting a picture of him post-surgery.

The Canadian fighter will now focus on his physical therapy to attempt to compete again with the UFC in the first half of 2012.

“Physio starts today, first step on my road to recovery. Going to do exactly what the experts tell me to do!” he wrote.

St. Pierre, who will not be able to defend his title in UFC 143, also thanked the UFC for its support during this time. Carlos Condit and Nick Diaz will fight for the interim welterweight title since St. Pierre is out.

“Have to thank the @ufc for making made it possible to have the best environment in the world for surgery, physio and rehab. Means a lot,” said St. Pierre.

It is the second major injury for St. Pierre, who had to drop out of a fight against Condit earlier in the year. He is expected to be out close to eight months with the injury.
