Landon Donovan Returning to Everton FC on Short-Term Loan During MLS OffseasonLandon Donovan will take his talents back to the English Premier League this winter. The L.A. Galaxy and U.S. national team star will return to Everton FC on a short-term loan deal, according to Everton's website.

"I am delighted that we have managed to get Landon back," Everton manager David Moyes said. "He will give us some good experience over January and February."

"He did well for us when he was over two years ago and hopefully will return with those same qualities. His season has just finished and like last time we need him to hit the ground running because the games come thick and fast at this time of year."

Donovan enjoyed a successful 10-week loan spell with Moyes and the Toffees in 2010. He appeared in 13 games in all competitions, scoring two goals and adding three assists. He won the club's Player of the Month award in January 2010.

"The opportunity to return to Everton and play for such a well-respected club and a manager that I hold in such high regard was something that was simply too good to pass up," Donovan said. "I thoroughly enjoyed my time at Everton in 2010 and I'm hopeful that we can experience similar success this time around."

The American soccer icon has been recuperating for the last two weeks after leading the Galaxy to the 2011 MLS Cup title. He will miss most of the Galaxy's preseason program, but will use the loan spell to maintain his fitness and sharpness ahead of the upcoming MLS season. The league's 17th season kicks off on March 10.

The European transfer window opens on Jan. 1 and Donovan would be eligible to play for Everton in its Jan. 4 game against Bolton Wanderers. His final game could be the Feb. 25 Merseyside derby at Anfield.
