Lucas Leiva Undergoes Successful ACL Surgery, Expects Six-Month RecoveryLucas Leiva‘s injured left knee is on the road to recovery. He said on Twitter that he had successful surgery to repair the anterior cruciate ligament injury that ended what was a fantastic season for the player.

The Liverpool midfielder had the surgery in the comfortable surroundings of Sao Paulo, Brazil and will begin rehabilitation work in the coming weeks. It is expected that he will miss six months of action.

Lucas injured his knee last Tuesday when he went for a tackle on Chelsea’s Juan Mata. His studs stuck in the ground as he was turning and he fell awkwardly as the ligament snapped.

Last week, the 24-year-old vowed to return from the injury a stronger player than he was before. Kenny Dalglish is mulling over a number of options to replace the Brazilian international. It will be a tough task for the veteran manager because Lucas was on his way toward repeating as Liverpool’s player of the season.
