Patrice Bergeron, Tim Thomas and the rest of the Bruins did a little shopping on Monday in an effort to spread some holiday cheer.
The entire B's roster took a trip to Target in Woburn as part of the team's annual Holiday Toy Shopping event presented by AT&T. The players bought toys to be given as gifts to children who are unable to spend the holidays at home.
Each players was provided with a shopping list from the hospitals that will be receiving the donations. The players are donating money from their own pockets, with the Bruins organization matching every dollar raised by the team. Last year, the team and organization purchased and donated $20,000 worth of toys.
Children's Hospital Boston, MassGeneral Hospital for Children, Shriners Hospital for Children, Boston Medical Center, Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital, Franciscan Hospital for Children and Floating Hospital for Children at Tufts Medical Center will be the recipients of the Bruins' gifts, which are to be delivered to the hospitals on Dec. 20.
Former captain Ray Bourque started the toy shopping event during his time in Boston, and the Bruins have continued the tradition since. Patrice Bergeron has taken responsibility for the program for the third consecutive year, and he will coordinate the delivery of the gifts.
