FOXBORO, Mass. — Patriots safety Patrick Chung missed practice Wednesday for the first time since Nov. 10, and his absence was surprising, considering he has actually missed more games during the regular season (six) than practices (five).

Chung has missed the last five games with a foot injury, but this was just the third time he has missed practice during that span. Since he didn't travel to Washington over the weekend, there's a possibility Chung could have suffered a setback Friday in practice.

Right tackle Sebastian Vollmer also missed Wednesday's session. He hasn't practiced since Week 12 due to foot and back ailments.

Linebacker Brandon Spikes was wearing a plastic brace on his right knee, and he has attended three consecutive practices, though he has missed the last five games.

Offensive lineman Marcus Cannon returned to practice after missing Friday's session for non-injury reasons. He played Sunday against the Redskins.

The Patriots practiced in sweats and shells. They can practice in full pads twice more before the end of the regular season.
