Mark Messier stopped playing for the Vancouver Canucks way back in 2000. But according to the former captain, the Canucks still may owe him some money for his services.
Messier seems to believe that his contract included certain clauses guaranteeing him more money, according to the Vancouver Province. The Canucks have arranged for an arbiter to hear the case in the spring to determine if they do owe him anything more.
The Canucks issued a statement, reading, "The contractual situation involving Mark Messier and the hockey club is an ongoing process and as a result Canucks Sports and Entertainment will respectfully defer further comment until the issue has been resolved."
Messier played with the Canucks for three seasons before departing to play for the New York Rangers, where he currently serves as a special assistant.
