Sports fans were spoiled with several exciting games, matches and tournaments in 2011. The biggest stages in sports showcased some of the most dramatic and exciting moments of the year — even if you don’t include the Bruins’ run up to the Stanley Cup or any other games involving Boston-area teams. (Otherwise, this list would be too easy.)

Looking back on 2011 as the calendar year comes to a close, fans across the country were treated to competitive championships in college and professional football, one of the best playoffs in NBA history, some unreal baseball games and much more.

Trying to pick the best 11 games of the year that didn’t include Boston teams is like trying to pick which game from the past year you would most like to go back and see in person: It’s no easy task.
