Tom Brady entered Sunday’s game against the Washington Redskins without having thrown an interception in four games. That changed in the fourth quarter, and the result was a very heated argument.
Brady and Patriots offensive coordinator Bill O’Brien exchanged verbal blows on the sideline following the pick, which resulted in the two being separated. Head coach Bill Belichick even had to intervene as O’Brien continued to yell in Brady’s direction.
It was an uncharacteristic interception for Brady, as the veteran quarterback tried to thread the needle to wide receiver Tiquan Underwood on third down in the fourth quarter in the red zone with a seven-point lead. The pick took away what should have been at least three points for the Patriots, and it forced their defense to come up with a big stop to preserve the win.
Sideline arguments are obviously part of the game, and one assumes the two will smooth things over if they haven’t already. But it was interesting to see how animated the two were, nonetheless.
