Wes Welker Wearing Cast Over Right Wrist, Plans to Explain Injury on FridayFOXBORO, Mass. — Patriots wide receiver Wes Welker was wearing a soft cast over his right wrist Thursday in the locker room.

It’s unclear when he might have suffered the injury, whether it happened during Sunday’s game against the Colts or another time. Welker, who also was wearing the cast Tuesday at a charity event in Boston, said he would speak to the media Friday.

The thin black cast was very light, almost like a sleeve over the wrist. Welker was limited at Wednesday’s practice with a knee injury, but there was no mention of the wrist on the team’s injury report, which would be within the NFL’s guidelines if the wrist injury had no bearing on Welker’s availability for Sunday’s game against the Redskins.

Welker was wearing long sleeves and gloves during Thursday’s practice, so it was unclear if he was wearing the cast at practice. The wide receiver was throwing the ball with his right hand, and he didn’t pay any extra attention to the wrist after each throw.

Welker’s 11 receptions against the Colts were his second-highest output since 2010.
