Dustin Penner suffered a little bit of embarrassment after missing a game due to an unusual injury. Now, he’s firing back to defend himself and the pancakes that he hurt himself eating.
In an open letter on MayorsManor.com, Penner strikes out at those who questioned his pancake-related injury.
“First and foremost,” he writes, “I think we can agree that having delicious pancakes that your wife made for breakfast, for a 1 p.m. game, is not out of the norm. Secondly, ‘SOBS’ (Sudden Onset Back Spasms) can occur at any moment, doing just about anything you can think of, and is a very serious issue.”
He also clarifies that he was eating vegetarian pancakes and that he did indeed finish the meal.
Penner goes on to announce he plans to raffle off tickets for a chance to sit down for breakfast and share, you guessed it, pancakes. So some good will come of this all, and Penner has shown that he has a good sense of humor about it.
Either that, or he just really likes pancakes.
