Former Tennessee Titans head coach Jeff Fisher was introduced as the new head coach of the St. Louis Rams at a news conference on Tuesday.  Fisher takes over a team that finished last in the NFC West and posted a conference-worst 2-14 record this season.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch is reporting that the Rams signed Fisher to a five-year contract worth approximately $35 million. Fisher did not coach during the 2011 season after he and the Titans mutually agreed to buy out the last year of his contract following a 6-10 campaign in 2010.

Fisher takes over for Steve Spagnuolo, who was fired on Jan. 2. Spagnuolo coached St. Louis for three seasons and went 10-38 during his tenure.  Fisher coached the Titans for 17 seasons beginning in 1994 when they were still the Houston Oilers. He acheieved a 262-142 record and led Tennessee to Super Bowl XXXIV in 2000, where they were denied a victory by one yard on the last play of the game by, ironically, the St. Louis Rams.
