Justin Bieber made plenty of references to sports when sitting down for an interview with V Magazine.
He expressed a desire to have his work ethic match that of either boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr. or Lakers guard Kobe Bryant.
Bieber said that everyone was happy for him while he was making his climb to the top, but now that he's become successful, everyone is tugging at him and trying to bring him down.
"And that's how it always is, everyone wants you to be on top, and as soon as you're there — like Floyd Mayweather, he's the best boxer in the world. Now he is a champion. Every time he goes to a fight now, people are like, 'He's going to lose this time,' and then he wins," Bieber told V Magazine. "And the next time they say, 'He's going to lose,' again; 'he's undefeated, he's getting old, he's going to fight [Victor] Ortiz, who's younger, and he's going to lose.' Every time he wins. And people aren't ever going to know that he's a champ."
Bieber then channeled his inner Mayweather, saying that he's here for a reason, here for a lifetime, and no one's going to get rid of him.
But good ol' Biebs didn't stop there. Instead he spoke glowingly of Bryant, whose work ethic he's also envious of.
"If I have a day off, I need to be at the dance studio, [but instead] I'm hanging out with my friends because I'm young," Bieber said. "But when I'm in my 20s and I'm starting to really want to be the best, I need to buckle down and work as hard as these other people. Like Kobe Bryant; he shows up two hours before the game, or two hours before practice, and leaves two hours later because he just wants it way more than everyone else. And that's what I want."
There was no mention of what kind of punch Bieber throws or whether he'll be pursuing a basketball career anytime soon, but he certainly makes a good barbell for Shaq.
