Mayors of Boston, New York Set Up Extravagant Super Bowl Bet to Be Enjoyed by Family From Winning City

Let's be honest. Mayoral bets over sporting events are usually pretty lame. However, the mayors of the two cities represented in the Super Bowl — Boston and New York City — have a pretty good wager on the line for Super Bowl XLVI.

The mayor whose team wins the Super Bowl bet won't be treated to a dinner original to the losing city or a case of beer. Instead, a family from the winning team's city will be hooked up with a pretty extravagant trip to the other city.

The New York Post has all of the details of the deal between New York mayor Michael Bloomberg and Boston mayor Thomas Menino, and it's pretty cool.

Here's what's at stake.

If the Patriots win the Super Bowl:

A family from Boston will receive…

  • Four tickets on the Delta Shuttle
  • A two-night stay at the Grand Hyatt in New York City
  • Dinner for four at the Russian Tea Room
  • Lunch or dinner at B. Smith's
  • Four club seats to a Rangers or Knicks game
  • Four tickets to Phantom of the Opera
  • A ride with the captain on Statue Cruises to Liberty and Ellis Islands with a VIP tour of the Statue of Liberty
  • VIP tour of the American wing at the Metropolitan Museum of Art
  • VIP tour of the Brooklyn Brewery
  • A photo with Mayor Bloomberg

If the Giants win the Super Bowl…

  • Four tickets on JetBlue
  • Two-night stay at the Ritz Carlton in Boston
  • Dinner for four at Legal Seafoods Harborside
  • Dinner for four at Top of the Hub
  • Four tickets to a performance a the City Performing Arts Center
  • Four box seats at a Bruins or Celtics game at TD Garden
  • Behind-the-scenes tour of the newly expanded Isabella Stewart Gardner museum
  • A Duck Tour ride
  • VIP tour of the personal diaries of John Adams at Boston Public Library
  • VIP tour of the Samuel Adams brewery
  • A photo with Mayor Menino

The bet is essentially every mayoral bet rolled into one giant package for the lucky family that wins.

"I have a lot of faith in the Patriots," Menino said, according to the Post. "They carried us this far, and I hope they'll carry the Vince Lombardi Trophy right back to Boston. But either on the field or off, the City of Boston wins by being able to showcase some of the best our great city has to offer."

Families will be able to enter into a lottery to win the selected package following the Super Bowl.
