Dijon midfielder Benjamin Corgnet has been linked with a possible move to Liverpool in the summer. The International Business Times reports Newcastle and Blackburn are also interested in the 24-year-old Frenchman, but LFC could have the inside track on his signature.
"L'Equipe claims that while Newcastle and Blackburn have shown interest in Corgnet, Liverpool are also keen to get hold of the 24 year old's signature, and have sent scouts on numerous occasions to watch the player in action," the report reads.
Corgnet has 3 1/2 years remaining on his contract, but the interest from English clubs will likely see him leave French soccer in 2012.
Newcastle bid £4.5 million ($7 million) for Corgnet last week, but Dijon rejected the proposal. Manager Patrice Carteron is almost certain the player will leave during the summer transfer window.
"We had a direct approach from Newcastle but Benjamin is of the same approach as us, and wants to continue to progress by completing a full season in Ligue 1," Carteron reportedly said.
"At the end of the season, of course, he will be allowed to leave. It is a good thing for him to be able to stabilize at the highest level. Newcastle's offer was very high."
The center midfielder is in his second season with Dijon. He featured heavily in last season's promotion campaign, and has flourished in Ligue 1 in 2011-12. He's made 18 appearances and scored seven goals in league play this season.
