The 20-year-old was in the midst of an almost meteoric rise when the injury sidelined him during the preseason. He has returned to light training and, barring any setbacks, will soon join his teammates in full training.
“Wilshere is on a strict rehabilitation programme and has stepped his training regime ahead of his first-team return,” the report says.
Arsenal plays Blackburn on Feb. 4 and Sunderland on Feb. 11. It is likely that he will return during one of those games. Wilshere is hoping to be in contention for a place in the starting 11 when the Gunners visit AC Milan in a Feb. 15 UEFA Champions League game.
Wilshere will need to impress England manager Fabio Capello with positive performances in the back end of the season. He was an England regular before his injury, and was a good bet to represent his country at this summer’s European Championships. He is now, at best, a long shot to earn one of the 23 places in Capello’s squad.
