The 36-year-old guard averaged 20 points through the Celtics' first six games, with a standout 27-point performance Monday against the Wizards in which he went 6-of-7 from 3-point range. That wasn't even his highest scoring total of the season; he dropped 28 points while shooting 6-of-8 from beyond the arc in a loss to the Heat two days after Christmas.
Allen is in the best shape of his life — in fact, he might be in the be shape of just about anyone's life — but there are concerns about how his style of play will hold up. His game is dependant on his ability to dash off screens or sprint downcourt before coming to a dead stop and launching a 3-pointer. Can he continue to produce and be worth the money as his mobility decreases?
The Celtics will have to make that call sometime before the beginning of next season. For now, Allen is making a pretty strong case that he's worth every penny.
