Steve Nicol Snubbed by Colorado Rapids, Calls Dealings ‘Disrespectful’

Steve Nicol is one of the winningest coaches in MLS history, but the Colorado Rapids did not treat him that way. The Rapids wanted to interview him about becoming their next head coach in November, but never followed up with him, according to The Boston Globe.

"By not calling back, it's unprofessional," Nicol said. "It is also disrespectful to me. I am interested in coaching again. But I am also happy doing what I'm doing for ESPN [as a studio analyst]."

Colorado hired former Revolution midfielder and FC Dallas assistant coach Oscar Pareja last week. He replaced Gary Smith, who led the club to the 2010 MLS Cup title.

Nicol was let go by the Revs in October, after 10 years in charge. The former Liverpool star is fourth on the all-time wins list among MLS head coaches.

New England hired former defender Jay Heaps as Nicol's successor.
