Not so much.
Since the Flames moved from Atlanta to Calgary in 1980, only five players have been selected out of Hockey East by the Flames. Sure, many young skaters were drafted by Calgary before heading off to school in New England, but just five — and one since 2003 — were selected out of HEA.
Two were Boston University Terriers (and Massachusetts natives) — Springfield's own Dan Cavanaugh in 1999 and Norfolk's Brian McConnell in 2002. Lyle Wildgoose not only has one of the best names in the history of sports, but he was also one of the five, getting plucked out of Providence College in the 1990 supplemental draft. The fourth was Maine's Greg Moore, who was the 143rd overall pick in 2003.
The fifth and final Hockey East representative to rock the fiery C on draft day also happens to be the only Flames pick ever to be drafted out of Boston College. Can you name this player, who also happened to play for the Bruins?
