Top-rated high school football player Davonte Neal was set to announce his college decision in front of a crowded auditorium on Tuesday, but the highly touted recruit was a no-show for his own coming out party.

A crowd of more than 600 elementary school children, family and friends gathered at Neal's elementary school, Kyrene de la Esperanza, in Phoenix, Ariz., but the crowd disbanded after 30 minutes with no sign of Neal.

Neal, listed as a top 10 recruit by some experts, did ultimately announce his decision from the school on Tuesday, committing to Notre Dame.

Neal, a two-time Gatorade Player of the Year in Arizona, played in the 2012 Under-Armour All-American game back in January, showing off his skills as a receiver throughout the game, even though he has been primarily recruited as a defensive back.

The 5-foot-10, 175-pound athlete from Scottsdale Chaparral High School in Arizona scored 33 touchdowns in 2011, including three special teams returns. Before choosing to play for coach Brian Kelly at Notre Dame, Neal had also considered Arkansas, Ohio State and North Carolina.
