High school basketball teams in Southern California have recently been forced to overcome a huge obstacle during their games.Â
Mamadou Ndiaye stands at an amazing 7-foot-5, and is drawing significant attention from opposing defenses on the court — understandably so.
So far, the Senegalese center has been impossible to defend. With a wingspan reaching 8 feet, even double and triple teams can’t effect how high he can reach to grab a lob in the post. In the same vein, driving into the lane against Ndiaye is proving futile.
Ndiaye ended up at Brethren Christian High School, a 250-student school in Huntington Beach, Calif., after he was found to have a tumor in his pituitary gland. Donations were able to fund his surgery, and a couple near the high school was gracious enough to become the teen’s legal guardians.
Though his statistics are inflated due to his small school competition in the Academy League, he is dominating the game pretty much every time he steps on the court. As of Jan. 31, Ndiaye is averaging 23.4 points per game, 13.6 rebounds per game, and 4.8 blocks per game, according to MaxPreps.com.
With no one able to meet him at the rim, he has been able to bang in 65 percent of his shots.
From the video below, it isn’t hard to see that he’s coachable and has a nice little 10-foot jumper. With some hard work, Ndiaye might just have a bright future in basketball.
