Vote: Which Free-Agent Wide Receiver Would You Most Like to See the Patriots Acquire? The New England Patriots are in an interesting situation. While the Pats have one of the best offenses in the NFL over the past few seasons, they have done so without a major deep threat, a problem that has hurt them on the biggest stages.

Luckily for the Patriots, if they are looking to beef up their receiving corps, this will be the year to do it. There is a plethora of big name wide receivers out there, and the Patriots might be wise to go and snag one (or two) of them.

The first name that immediately pops up for the Pats is Wes Welker. The Patriots slot receiver has been one of the most consistent wideouts in the league, amassing 554 catches since 2007, which is the most in the league during that span. The big drop in the Super Bowl was costly, but it shouldn't hurt what has been a spectacular run.

Along with Welker, the free agent pool has some strong candidates. Vincent Jackson has been solid for the Chargers in three of the last four seasons. If San Diego cannot work out a deal with Jackson, it would be interesting to see if the Pats make a run at him. Jackson showed off his big play ability in Week 2 against the Pats in Foxboro, making several spectacular catches to go along with two touchdowns.

Marques Colston has quietly become one of the most consistent receivers in the NFL, accumulating over 1,000 yards in five of his first six seasons as the number one receiver for the New Orleans Saints. With the franchise tag possibly heading for Drew Brees, Colston will be a hot commodity on the market.

Dwyane Bowe has been stellar for the Chiefs despite not having a stable quarterback throwing passes to him. After catching 15 touchdowns in 2010, Bowe only caught five for scores last season with injuries hurting the Chiefs quarterback situation. Bowe will likely be franchised, so it will take a lot to pry him from KC.

Brandon Lloyd has said he clicks with Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels, so it seems as though it would be a good fit to try and land the Rams wide receiver. Lloyd is one of the older big name receivers on the market at age 30, but his chemistry with McDaniels might be too good to pass up.

There are other receivers on the market, such as Reggie Wayne, who has been linked with Peyton Manning as a potential package deal, Pierre Garcon, Steve Johnson and DeSean Jackson.

Who do you think the Patriots should pick up in the offseason?
