This story would be far worse 40 years ago.
Rangers forward Brandon Dubinsky had a close call on Friday night, as he was the recipient of a skate blade to the head.
Sabres defenseman Tyler Myers went head over heels after being taken down by Ryan Callahan during a skirmish near the Buffalo net in the third period of what was eventually a 4-1 Sabres win. Myers' legs went soaring through the air, and since the defenseman stands at 6-foot-8, his skates ended up at eye level. Myers' skate narrowly missed slicing Dubinsky's face and instead ended up hitting the New York winger more toward the top of his head.
Had Dubinsky not been wearing a helmet, the situation could have been ugly, so let's all just be thankful it's 2012 and not 1972.
