Benoit Pouliot was a surprising scratch just prior to Saturday's game against the Capitals, forcing defenseman Mike Mottau to jump up to forward — a role the veteran blue liner hasn't seen much of in the past.

Perhaps trying to avoid a repeat on Sunday, when the Bruins travel to Pittsburgh to take on the Penguins, the team has recalled forward Max Sauve from Providence on an emergency basis.

Sauve has 7-10-17 totals in 30 games with Providence this season after finishing second on the club in goals with 21 last season.

The 22-year-old was originally drafted by the Bruins in the second round (47th overall) of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft, and has yet to appear in an NHL game.
