The Bruins were busy despite Tuesday's off-day, as general manager Peter Chiarelli announced three transactions made by the club.

The B's recalled forward Trent Whitfield, assigned forward Max Sauve to Providence and traded defenseman Yury Alexandrov to the Islanders for future considerations.

Whitfield is expected to join the team on Wednesday prior to its three-game West Coast swing, which kicks off on Thursday in San Jose.

The 34-year-old Whitfield has appeared in one game with the Bruins this season (March 13 versus Tampa Bay), and has 7-7-14 totals in 43 games down in Providence. He appeared in 16 games with the big club during the 2009-10 season.

Sauve was recalled to Boston on an emergency basis on March 10 and made his NHL debut against the Penguins on March 11.

Alexandrov, meanwhile, has played in 37 KHL games this season after skating in 66 games with Providence last season. The 23-year-old native of Cherepovets, Russia was originally drafted by the Bruins in the second round (37th overall) of the 2006 NHL Entry Draft.
