The campuses of Louisville University and the University of Kentucky are barely more than 75 miles apart, so naturally there is some bad blood between the longtime college basketball rivals.
Therefore, it wasn’t that surprising when fans of the two teams got into a fistfight Monday over the schools’ upcoming Final Four matchup.
However, the fight occurred at a Dialysis Clinic in Georgetown, Ky., according to WYMT-TV.
“He [Louisville fan Charles Taylor] just happened to think Louisville would beat Kentucky and he started to run his mouth,” said patient and Kentucky fan Ed Wilson. “That’s what started it.”
Taylor, meanwhile, had a much different take on Monday’s events.
“I didn’t talk to him about the ballgame. I was talking to another guy about the game,” he said. “He was meddling and told me to shut up and gave me the finger.
“I went up to him, and I hit him, ” Taylor added. “Didn’t hit him that hard, but I hit him.”
Georgetown police were called to the scene, but the fight had already ended by the time they arrived. Wilson said he will not file charges against Taylor.
Top-seeded Kentucky and No. 4-seeded Louisville will square off at 6:09 p.m. on Saturday with a trip to the national championship game on the line. The Wildcats beat Rick Pitino‘s Cardinals squad 69-62 on Dec. 31.
